Tightrope
Winamp SKins

History

Tightrope was started back in May of 2001 (beginning as Operation Winamp Skin, that name quickly changed). My skins have improved greatly over the past years, and I'm still experimenting with new things. This is the 6th layout.

Frequently Asked and Unasked Questions

Q: What version of Winamp are these skins for?
A: The skins here currently are for Winamp 2.x. I am now optimizing all skins for 2.9x and Winamp 5.0. I am no longer skining the mini-browser that is present in 2.8x and lower. It is now part of the media library, which is skinned on my newer skins. I will also re-attempt to make some modern skins - I have one in the works now for Fruits Basket.

Q: Will you skin this for me?
A: Perhaps, try leaving me a note in the forums or via e-mail. It's even better if you have an image that you can provide for me to use. I can't promise anything. I usually have to be inspired to skin.

Q: How do you make your skins?
A: I use Adobe Photoshop 7.

Q: How do I install these?
A: Find your winamp directory, and drop the .zip file into your winamp/skins folder. Open up winamp and click alt-S. That should bring up your skin browser and you can choose it from there. ^^

Q: Why won't it work!? Why won't it show up like the screencap on your site!?
A: Check to see what version of Winamp you're using. These only work properly in Winamp 2.x and 5.0, they are shown differently if you use Winamp 3.x.

Q: What's the difference between winamp 2.8x and 2.9x?
A: Not too much really. 2.9x has a media library and a video screen. The AVS is also different in the way it is skinned. Since I recently got a new computer, I installed 2.9x and really like it, especially the media library, so all my new skins will be optimized for 2.9x (and 5.0). One day, I'll fix up the old skins as well.

Q: Can I put these on my site?
A: Talk to me first. If it's for a shrine, I'll probably say yes. Collections of skins, I'll probably say no. After permission is granted, you just need to place a link back and credit me. The zip (or wsz) file must be left intact, including the readme file. If you can't house the skin file on your site, link to the webpage NOT the file please. I will send you unhappy e-mails.

Q: What about winamp3?
A: I attempted to create a skin for winamp3, I got about halfway through and realized I really had no idea what I was doing. I'm also waiting for a more stable version to come out, this one crashes too much and uses too many resources. I'm going to attempt to create skins for W5 again soon, once I get enough free time.
